A Review of my L’Oreal Professional hair products

One thing you have to know about me is that I’m a very lazy person. I have absolutely no patience to spend hours on fixing my hair. I had this friend of mine who’d wake up 3 hours before she had to leave the house, just to fix her hair. You would never find me doing that in a thousand years. So I look for the easiest ways to make my hair look good. Shampoo, conditioning and I should be done. On days that i wash my hair, it takes me about 30-45 minutes to fix my hair. On other days, I take less than 5 minutes.
When I straightened my hair the first time, the salon lady suggested I buy the L’Oreal Professional Liss Ultime series, i.e. their shampoo, smoothening masque and the serum. This is what I have been using for 2 years now. And I absolutely love it. I’ve suggested it to a few of my friends and they swear by it.
So here goes.

What they say:
Liss Ultime Shampoo
Smoothing shampoo for unmanageable hair

It is the ultimate shampoo for frizzy, rebellious hair. Formulated with Oil Incell technology, which cleverly mimics the hair’s lost ceramides. This combined with the addition of highly nourishing argan and olive oils means that this shampoo leaves hair smoothed, conditioned and gleaming with health.
This incredible shampoo for dry hair will restore the softness to frizzy, difficult hair. It will add moisture and nourishment leaving your hair smooth and shiny.
For super smooth, luscious locks bursting with vitality and luster.
Directions/ How to use :
Wet hair completely. Apply a small amount of Liss Ultime shampoo to your wet hair. Massage into your hair and scalp. Rinse thoroughly.
Price: Rs. 425/- for 250 ml.
Liss Ultime Masque
Smoothing masque for unmanageable hair

For difficult to manage, frizzy hair. This hair treatment has been designed to detangle, deeply moisturise and add volume and control.
This pampering treat works in minutes leaving you with super smooth, luscious locks.
Directions/ How to use :
Apply evenly to clean, towel-dried hair. Leave for 2-3 minutes. Rinse thoroughly
Price: Rs. 850/- for 490 g. This is the in-salon one. The smaller one sold retail costs about Rs. 500/-
Liss Ultime Serum
Shine Perfecting Serum

Contains Reflexium technology – a mixture of active shine ingredients and taming agents designed to coat the hair surface with a light protective film.
Designed to nourish, smooth and add shine to curly, frizzy or unmanageable hair. It’s a non-greasy, lightweight formula which will promote softness and control without weighing hair down.
Featherweight conditioning leave-in serum that works on the most difficult frizz-prone hair, leaving a perfectly polished finish.
Directions/ How to use :
Apply 1-2 drops to clean, towel dried hair. Do not rinse. Style as usual.
Price: Rs. 525/- for 125 ml. You get a smaller version of this too.
My Experience:
I’ve been using these 3 products for 2 years now and I’m in love with these. I’ll start with the shampoo.
The shampoo is not very runny nor is it very thick. The shampoo doesn’t lather much on the first wash. So, I normally use my anti-dandruff shampoo first. The shampoo is not exactly mild. So I take  a little and mix it with water. It lathers more than necessary on the second wash. It is also not meant for an everyday wash. I wash my hair only twice a week and it suits me just fine.
It does meet up to its promise of smoothening. My hair has a tendency to dry up and I never use oil on my hair. I have rebonded hair. During the later months, when the new hair starts growing, it sometimes can be dry and frizzy. This shampoo definitely helps me smooth that hair.
If I’m in a hurry, I just shampoo my hair and apply serum. I don’t even need to use a conditioner.
The smoothening masque is of the ‘less is more’ category. Its looks like body cream. After shampoo, I squeeze out the water, take a little on my fingers and run it through my hair, leave it for about 2 minutes and wash it off. I just barely touch it on the scalp area. Its more important to apply it on the ends. I know a lot of people have the problem that conditioners and smoothening masques weigh down their hair and make it limp. In my case, my hair feels weightless and quite bouncy. I use very little of the product and it does its job. Applying too much of it can make your hair feel a little sticky. And since it is soooo expensive, I try to use as little as possible.
The serum can be used on wet as well as dry hair. I have really long and thick hair, so I require about 2 pumps of it. But after shampooing and conditioning, you require very little of it. It adds a really nice shine to my hair without making it look oily. And it also helps to settle fly-away hair. It is a little oily to touch, so when applying on dry hair, take a little into your hand, then transfer it on to your hair brush and comb it through your hair. Makes your hair look shiny just like in those hair commercials.
These products last me quite long. The shampoo, with my twice a week wash, will last me for 3-4 months. The masque will easily last me for about 5-6 months. And I’ve been using the serum for a year now and it’s still got one-third left. This is the only reason that the price doesn’t pinch me as much. I’m quite middle class and normally avoid spending so much money. But my hair products are the only expensive things i buy and they definitely are worth it.
What suits me may not suit you. It may work for you or it may not. But if you have really frizzy hair that tends to get dry, I think this is a great set.

My hair is normally straighter than this, but I tied up my hair and went to sleep last night when it was still a little damp. Hence the bend.

This was a review of my previous smoothening masque. When I went to buy a new tub 2 weeks back, the stylist recommended the recently launched x-tenso Moisturist masque.
L-1
It claims to improve the straightening effect and is meant exclusively for straightened hair. It’s too soon to comment on that. I’ll have to use it for a few more weeks before I can say if it’s effective or not. But it does have the benefits of my previous masque. I’ve had no complaints yet.

3 hours to set the hair!!! OMG, I don't like the thought of spending even 30 minutes on my hair everyday. 2 to 5 minutes is more my style.

I love the L'oreal Professional series. I was earlier using Force Vector (I love it).. it got over & my local store was also out of stock on it so I got Absolute Repair and my hair is just, just loving it. It has suddenly become all smooth and silky :)

This is a very good line of shampoos for hair care :)

I know. I used to wonder where she got the patience for it. I normally can't even find 5 minutes to do my hair..

My mom uses the Absolute Repair and she loves it. I normally recommend L'Oreal professional to everyone. They have shampoos for all hair types. Its just about finding the right one.

wow your hair looks so shiny and sleek!

this range looks good, but i haven't actually found the l'oreal professional range in any shop in chennai. my hair is not very thick but it is really, really fine. so it gets frizzy easily with fly-aways galore! i'm always on the lookout for something that will keep small fly-aways in place.

Thanks..
This range is not available in regular stores. Look for them in professional salons. These salons have tie-ups with L'Oreal to sell their products. These are in-salon products, so thats where you'll find them.

i thought so but all the salons nearby use schwarzkopf and other tongue-twisting brands. can't seem to find any that use l'oreal *sigh*

One of friend's cousin is from Chennai. And lucky for me, she's online now. So I just asked her. There's this salon 2000 l'oreal prestige in the t.nagar area and this salon called 'a cut above' at dr. r k rd, that is a loreal outlet. I dont have the address or the no. If you want, i'll ask. You could always call up and enquire. I hope that helps.

Hey that's really nice of you to find out for me :)

No need to get more info. I'll get the number online itself. Thanks so much for your help.

hey,
i got lucky n stumbled on yur blog 2 days b4 i was goin to go 4 rebonding!! as soon as i got my hair rebonded, i went n grabbed these 3 products !!! n m so luving it. my hair was heckish dry . . n now i just cant stop touchin dem. :) :) . .thnx . .parlour ppl said i cud let go of serum . . .but i decided to buy 1. i have a few queries :P
1. its been 15 days n my hairs r getting wavy from d end . . parlour ppl say they can get it fixed only by repeat rebonding. . n m afraid to get my hair xposed to so much chems again in a span of 20 days :(
2. how do yu comb yur hair . . .dried, or wet . . . do yu blow dry it ???

ladylavendersays said...

@rashmi.. I'm glad you liked the products..

About your queries,

1. If your hair is getting wavy at the end, then it means the rebonding wasn't done properly. Its definitely the salon's fault. I hope you took the mandatory precaution of not tying or washing your hair the first 3 days.. I'd recommend waiting atleast a month before repeating it. And you needn't get it done it done for all your hair. Just the sections that are wavy.

2. I normally use a wide tooth comb to comb by hair when its wet. Removes the tangles. And yes, I blow dry my hair. I wash my hair in the mornings before going to work and I don't have the time to let it dry. But if I wash it when I'm at home and have time, I let it dry naturally.

Hope that answered all your questions. If you've any more queries, feel free to email me.

I just happened to see that you're from Bangalore. I use that X-Tenso moisturist and I'm almost running out of it. Could you tell me where can I find these professionel products in B'lore 'cause I'm new here. I stay nearby E-city.

Thanks,

Hi J..

Most major salons in Bangalore have Loreal products. You can buy it from any of those. You could try YLG salons. Thats where I'm buying my stuff from.
